Inclusion
We truly believe that students at George Spencer Academy have the potential to flourish through our bespoke and inclusive approach alongside our creative and innovative curriculum. Students are supported by our dedicated and caring staff within the Inclusion Team who are committed to providing high quality support in a happy, warm and inclusive environment. Every child is valued as an individual and also as a member of our school community. Our aim is to ensure that all students irrespective of additional needs have ambitious opportunities to reach their full potential academically, socially and emotionally. We aim for our students to gain appropriate academic qualifications as well as developing life skills and lifelong friendships.
The Team
The Inclusion Team is led by the SENCo Mrs S Clark and the Assistant SENCo Mrs L Wiseman. The team consists of Learning and Progress Assistants who are trained to provide in-class support and deliver tailored keyworker sessions. Our Inclusion Team also has Specialist Intervention Caseworkers who are specialists in providing 1:1 and small group support outside of the classroom to further impact on the students’ success at George Spencer Academy.
Our role
Our role is rooted in identifying and assessing students with special educational needs, to support students with additional needs and advising teachers of the best ways to meet students’ needs. Through a collective approach our classroom teachers and support staff are able to identify individual development requirements, and provide lessons and activities in which all SEN students can flourish both academically and personally. We cater for students with a wide variety of additional needs, ranging from physical and sensory needs to social, emotional and mental health needs.
As an ethos driven school, George Spencer Academy is committed to identifying and providing for the needs of all students.
We are very proud of our SEN offer and warmly welcome visits and meetings. If you would like to make an appointment to meet throughout the year please contact the SENCo via senco@georgespencer.org.uk or 0115 9170100. Termly reviews are held for all students on the SEN register where you will have chance to discuss and review your child’s progress.
As part of changes implemented by the Department for Education in 2014, all local authorities must publish information about how they support SEND pupils. This is called the ‘Local Offer.’
